Comme des millions de gens en Europe et dans le monde, vous êtes amenés dans cette situation difficile à travailler à domicile. Vous rencontrez peut-être des problèmes de lenteur. Cela perturbe votre travail et il est difficile de vous concentrer sur vos tâches. Nous vous expliquons ici quelles sont les causes et comment y remédier.

Boostez votre wifi

Dans les entreprises, grâce à l’intervention de votre service informatique, la qualité du wifi est excellente. En effet, ils ont placé de manière régulière des cellules qui permettent d’obtenir un signal uniforme.

A la maison, malgré la qualité des équipements que vous fournit aujourd’hui votre opérateur télécom, souvent encore la qualité du Wifi à la maison est très variable. Il y a plusieurs facteurs à prendre en considération.

  • Vérifiez que votre ordinateur et votre modem-wifi ne sont pas trop distants (idéalement maximum 10m).
  • Evitez autant que possible tout mur ou dalle (particulièrement en béton armé) car il dégrade fortement le signal.
  • Pour une question d’esthétique vous avez placé votre modem-wifi dans le meuble TV. Un tel modem diffuse généralement son signal vers le bas. Il est préférable de placer son modem-wifi le plus haut possible.
  • Si ces mesures n’ont pas d’effet, utilisez un répéteur de signal.

La connexion Internet de votre entreprise, goulot d’étranglement

En travaillant au bureau, l’accès à vos fichiers s’effectue en interne. Vous n’observez parfois que des ralentissements lorsque vous naviguez sur Internet.

Votre entreprise est, tout comme votre maison, reliée au réseau Internet par un raccordement xDSL, câble ou fibre. En temps normal, si votre société n’utilise pas des outils cloud, la liaison vers Internet est relativement faiblement utilisée. Mais en temps de télétravail, la situation change.

En effet, lorsque tous les travailleurs sont à la maison, la gestion des documents s’effectue par la liaison Internet de l’entreprise (en utilisant un VPN, voir infra). Elle devient donc un goulot d’étranglement. Dès que vous ouvrez un document, l’ajoutez dans un email, le copiez, le déplacez, … celui-ci est diffusé à travers Internet et vous utilisez une partie importante de cette liaison.

Pour éviter ce problème, il est préférable d’utiliser des outils qui agissent directement sur votre serveur de document. Ainsi toutes les opérations sont effectuées sur le serveur de votre entreprise en utilisant très faiblement la connexion Internet de l’entreprise. Vous épargnez de la bande passante au profit d’autres applications qui en ont réellement besoin.

Le VPN peut aussi être mal configuré

Le VPN (virtual private network) est un composant logiciel qui permet de créer un véritable tunnel entre votre ordinateur et le réseau de votre entreprise. De cette manière, c’est comme s’il était connecté directement au réseau interne de l’entreprise. Mais avec une nuance importante : le réseau Internet entre les deux et le goulot d’étranglement dont question ci-avant.

Lorsque le travailleur accède directement au serveur de fichiers de l’entreprise, il utilise le VPN. Par contre, lorsqu’il accède à des applications web, il devrait utiliser sa connexion Internet locale. Mais souvent, les VPN sont mal configurés et tout le trafic passe par le VPN. Concrètement, c’est comme si tout le monde passait par Paris pour se rendre dans n’importe quelle destination du monde!

Demandez de l’aide à votre informaticien pour qu’il s’assure que votre trafic Internet passe bien par votre propre raccordement Internet.
